ICDS Scheme in Karnal District

Introduction :-

The Development of Women and Child Development Govt. Haryana under Social Welfare Deptt. Haryana is in the process of improving the health & Nutritional Status of Mothers      ( both Pregnant & Lactating ) and below six years children through ICDS scheme.This scheme also helps the Mothers & Children to improve their Social status & educating the Mothers, on how awareness of Children right can be used for improving the condition status and protection of Children and awareness of Women's right for all round Development, and preparing the Children below six years for admission in Schools through pre-school education programme. The facilities have been given to those Mothers & Children belonging to the poorest families and all SC & BC categories related to the above mentioned Mothers & Children. These facilities have been given by the ICDS Deptt.through the AWC's, Village wise & Blockwise in this District.

I.C.D.S. PROJECTS

There are six ICDS Projects, Karnal, Gharaunda, Indri, Nilokheri, Nissing and Assandh properly functioning in this District. And 785 AWC's are sanctioned & functioning in this District under the above mentioned scheme. All six projects are rural projects and AWC's related each project is as :-

The main aim of this scheme is to develop the mental and social status of below 6 years children and to reduce the infant mortality rate ( death of children ), to prevent the rate of mal-nourished children.

NUTRITION & IMMUNIZATION

In this District, this scheme provides the supplementary Nutrition Programme of preg. & lact.Mothers and below six years children with the help of Anganwadies Helpers, Anganwadies Workers, Supervisors ICDS and by the help of Community-Mahila Mandal Members , Panchayat Lady Members (Or) Voluntary organizations belonging to the poorest family and all beneficiaries of SC's & BC's category in the rural region . Because the ICDS scheme adopted the rural region in this District. Alongwith this the Immunization programme ,health check-up of Mothers and Children and referred services facilities are   also being given with the help of Health Deptt. by MO's in the AWC's.

ANGANWARI

Under this scheme through Anganwari Centers, the main programme Non-formal pre-school education has been started for the children 3yrs. to 6yrs.  To seek the admission in Govt. Schools. Nutritional and health education has been already given to Mothers in the foiat visits of concerned block CDPO'S with MO'S at village level meetings and various seminars & meetings have been organized by the programme office & by the Deptt. to educate the Mothers about Nutritional & health education. Mothers are being educated about the awareness of children health particularly  mal-Nutritioned children have been identified by weighing the children in the AWC's by AWW's every month. All the benefits have been given to all SC & BC categories, Mothers and children  and for general category, the beneficiaries may belong  to the poorest families ( on identified in the BPL Survey) marginal farmers etc. To monitoring the progress of the scheme, the Deptt. has fixed the target as per AWC's (or) population. At per one thousand of population one Anganwari Center has been sanctioned in the rural area in this District. At per AWC's 16 Mothers both pregnant & lactality and 68 Children target has been fixed for getting the benefit  of the supplementary Nutrition programme. The target of Non-formal pre-school education 3yrs. to 6yrs. children has been fixed for 40 children   for AWC's. In Immunization programme the target for BCG/DPT/POCD/Measles has been fixed by 2.496% of total population covered and target of T.T. Mothers has been fixed by 2.936% of total population covered.
In this District under the supplementary Nutrition programme in the month of May 2005, 14406 Mothers (Preg.& lact.) and 56792 Children below 6yrs. has been benefited and 115% Mothers target and 106% of children target has been achieved. In Non- formal pre-school education programme 25644 children from 3yrs. to 6yrs. has been benefited and 82% of target has been achieved in this programme. In Immunization programme under the BCG Immunization 2708 children have been immunized and 47% of target has been achieved. In DPT programme 2875 children immunized and 50% target has been achieved. In Polio programme 90559 children have been immunized and 99% of target has been achieved. In Measles programme 2846 children have been immunized and 49% of target has been achieved. In T.T. mothers programme 2914 mothers have been immunized and 43% of target has been achieved with the help of Health Deptt.

Under the Human Resource and Development Ministry of Central Govt., the BSY (Balika Samridi Yojana) National scheme has been given to this deptt. by Central Govt. under the BSY scheme, the benefit has been given to those Mothers who are having two living girls whether the mothers are three living children& more, mothers belonging to Below Poverty Line list, get Rs. 500/- for maternity and Rs. 2500/- has been deposited in the A/C of new born girl as Indira Vikas Patra purchased by ADC in the concerned District. In NMBS scheme mothers have been given Rs. 500/- during pregnancy of 7th weeks to 13th weeks. This benefit has been given to those mothers who have living only two children and her name should be in the BPL list.(below Poverty Line)

APNI BETI APNA DHAN

Under the State Govt. scheme Apni Beti Apna Dhan (ABAD) the benefit of Rs. 500/- for maternity has been given to the mothers and Rs. 2500/- has been deposited in the A/C of new born girl as Indira Vikas Patra  purchased by the ADC office of concerned District. This benefit has been given only to those mothers who are having two living children and belong to all SC's & BC's mothers and  general category mothers related to Below Poverty Line.

LINKAGE OF DEPTT. WITH NIC THROUGH COMPUTERIZATION

The monthly progress report of ICDS Blocks has been already feeded in the computer blockwise. It is one of the oldest deptt. who had linked up with computer programme regarding reports feeding as per AWC's functioning. It is the 1st scheme under Social Welfare Deptt. Haryana linked up with computer programme in Haryana.
